Man charged with hitting 2 bicyclists, trying to drive away

PORT ANGELES, Wash. (AP) — A Port Angeles man has been charged with vehicular assault and two counts of hit-and-run after witnesses said he drove erratically and hit two bicyclists on U.S. Highway 101 on Labor Day.

The Peninsula Daily News reports that Anthony McKenzie was scheduled to be in court on Thursday.

One of the bicyclists, Jeanie Chellino of Channahon, Illinois, remained hospitalized Wednesday. Her husband Dominick was treated and released.

Jordan Bond of Sequim says he was driving behind McKenzie and saw him swerving, nearly missing some motorcycles. Bond says he kept calling 911 warning that the truck was going to hit someone.

Bond says after McKenzie hit the bicyclists, he kept driving so Bond says he rammed McKenzie's truck to make him stop. McKenzie was taken into custody.
