Pete Carroll on Chancellor: ‘He’s not here … he’s not playing (Sunday), that’s it’
RENTON, Wash. (AP) — Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll says holdout strong safety Kam Chancellor has not shown up at the team’s practice facility and won’t play on Sunday in the season opener against St. Louis.
Carroll spoke Wednesday as the Seahawks began preparations for the Rams.
“He’s not here right now, so he’s not playing. That’s it,” Carroll said. “Today’s Wednesday.”
Carroll says he is disappointed Chancellor has chosen this route to express his displeasure with his contract situation. Chancellor wants his contract renegotiated even though there’s three years left on the deal he signed in 2013.
“Yeah, I am disappointed in this,” Carroll said. “Very much so. I think everybody should be, because he’s been such a great part of this team. It’s unfortunate that it’s come to this and he’s not here.”
Dion Bailey will start at strong safety in Chancellor’s absence.
“Dion Bailey … we are going to count on him to do the things that he does well,” Carroll said.
Dan Hellie of NFL Network said he spoke to Chancellor and the Seahawks safety said this:
