More child body parts found in Chicago lagoon

CHICAGO -- Chicago police found a child's head near where other body parts were discovered in the Garfield Park lagoon.

According to WGN, The first body part was found around 4:40 p.m. Saturday on the shore of the lagoon in the northwest corner of the park, near the 200 block of McCrea Drive. Beat officers at the scene say it appeared to be a toddler's foot.

A large police presence arrived and closed the park, then began to search the lagoon, where they discovered several more body parts belonging to a child about 2-4 years old.

Police found the child's other foot and both hands toward the north end of the lagoon. A 20 lb. weight was found nearby, according to authorities.

Police say the body parts were in what they called "an advanced state of decomposition." There is no word yet on the race or gender of the child.

Alderman Jason Ervin of the 28th Ward has been in contact with the police and hopes the public can help with the investigation.

"I am not aware of any missing children," Ervin said. "I would hope people in the community or across the city would know if a child is not around from a relative, family member or neighbor, and make that call to 911."

It's still unclear whether these remains belong to just one child.
