One train crashes into another at Port of Tacoma; 1 person injured

TACOMA -- A train crashed into a stopped train Thursday morning in Tacoma, police said, leaving one person with minor injuries.

Just before 7 a.m., a BNSF Train was stopped near the intersection of Lincoln Avenue and Port of Tacoma Road, a BNSF spokesman said, when a switch engine ran into it at a slow rate of speed.  No cars were involved.

One person was transported to the hospital with minor injuries from the crash, Tacoma Fire said.

A BNSF rail official said the Tacoma Rail train struck the other train as it stood still. The BNSF train was not pushed off the tracks, and BNSF is assessing the damage to their locomotive.
