Suspect arrested on arson charges in connection with 3 brush fires in Mason County last Sunday night

SHELTON, Wash. -- A suspect has been arrested on arson charges in connection with three separate fires in the Arcadia area on Aug. 23, the Mason County Sheriff's Office said Friday.

Several callers reported fires in the Arcadia area at about 11 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 23, the sheriff's office said.  Crews from Mason County Fire and the state Department of Natural Resources put out the fires. Investigations determined the fires were intentionally set.

“These fires were set in bone-dry conditions in close proximity to multiple homes during late evening hours when many people are already turned-in for the night," Sheriff Casey Salisbury said.

A suspect was identified during the investigation and was contacted by DNR fire investigators and sheriff's office detectives at his home, the sheriff's office said.  A search warrant was obtained for the home and several pieces of evidence were recovered.

After an interview, the suspect was placed under arrest and booked into the Mason County Jail, the sheriff's office said.

The office did not provide any other details about the suspect.
