Snohomish swamped with request for data from county phones

EVERETT, Wash. (AP) — Snohomish County is working to fulfill a public records request asking for all data from government-issued cellphones.

The Daily Herald of Everett reports that a person using the name Mr. Public Requestor in June requested the data. He has asked for all audio, video and photographic data as well as applications, operating system data and more.

Officials say extracting that data could take up to four hours for each of the county's 1,000 cellphones. That time will increase as employees need to redact the data.

County employees have been told not to delete anything from their work phones until the data dump is done.

A public disclosure assistant says the request has cost the county thousands of dollars so far.
