Police: Pipe bombs found in man's car following chase

AUBURN -- Police arrested a 18-year-old man Monday after he allegedly led police on a brief chase and was found with pipe bombs in his car.

Auburn police received a call around 7:30 a.m. that a Honda Prelude was damaging property at an Auburn hillside. Police drove to the scene, but could not locate the car, officers said.

Around 9 a.m., police spotted the Honda and tried to stop it. The driver took off and there was a short pursuit, Auburn police said. An officer managed to stop the car near the intersection of 288 Place South and 52nd Avenue South.

The suspect ran once his car was stopped, police said, but he was caught and arrested after a quick foot chase.

When officers checked the car, they allegedly discovered what appeared to be pipe bombs. The bomb squad was called to the scene, and they rendered the devices safe.

No injuries were reported in the chase.
