Pictures of smoke mesmerize Internet as haze clears in Western Washington

SEATTLE -- Pictures of smoke from the wildfires made rounds on the Internet Monday, just as the haze began to clear in Seattle and the surrounding areas.

According to the Washington state Department of Ecology, air quality in Western Washington was largely rated as "Good," Monday.

Only the Darrington area was rated as "Moderate" on the east side of the Cascades. Darrington is close to the Upper Skagit Complex Fire, which has burned around 4,400 acres and is zero percent contained.

Comparison photos and videos of smoke from in and around Seattle snapped over the weekend made the rounds on the Internet.

Air quality east of the mountains, closer to the vast majority wildfires, remained poor and even harmful. In Winthrop, Twisp and parts of Spokane, the air quality was rated as "Very Unhealthy." Others areas, including Ellensburg and Wenatchee, were rated as "Unhealthy."
