Man turns himself in after shooting in Bellingham

BELLINGHAM, Wash. (AP) — A man who witnesses say left the scene of an early morning shooting in Bellingham has turned himself in.

Bellingham Police Deputy Chief Flo Simon says Raymond Gilbert was booked into the Whatcom County Jail on Thursday.

Officers were called to Otis Street at about 1:22 a.m. Thursday on a report of a single gunshot. Witnesses reported hearing a single shot and saw a female victim lying on her deck.

They tried to administer first aid, but she died. She was suffering from a gunshot wound to her head.

Witnesses told police that they saw Gilbert leave the scene and after a search, police were not able to locate him. He later turned himself in without incident.
