Man killed on Capitol Hill after several people fired guns in crowded street, police say

SEATTLE -- One man died after being shot on Capitol Hill early Sunday morning.

Police were called to a "large disturbance" near Pine Street and Melrose Avenue. One man was struck by gunfire in a parking lot just after 2 a.m.  He was taken to Harborview Medical Center where he later died.

A number of shell casings were found at several locations, spanning a one-and-a-half block radius, and investigators believe multiple people fired guns.

Crime Scene Investigators are still processing the evidence, and working to determine what led to the conflict.

It is unknown how many people were involved in the altercation, and Seattle Police said the area was crowded, due to people heading home from nearby bars.

Cindy Figueroa witnessed the incident and captured video just moments after someone shot the victim.

"After the first couple of shots, I stayed down the entire time and did not get up again until I saw the police," said Figueroa. "It’s just that there were bullets coming from everywhere you could hear them."

Figueroa, a funeral director for American International Memorials, has now offered to donate her services from the victim's family. While she didn't know at the time of the shooting, she has since discovered she has mutual friends with the shooting victim.

"I’ve realized that in the last 12-16 hours that a lot of people knew him and people had stories to share, and a lot of people especially wanted to talk about how he loved his daughter," said Figueroa.
