Neighbors to gather for peace vigil in wake of Puyallup shooting

PUYALLUP, Wash. (AP) — A peace vigil is being planned for Sunday evening in response to this past week's shooting in Puyallup.

The News Tribune reports the 6 p.m. event will take place at Puyallup United Methodist Church near where a shooter on Tuesday led police on an eight-minute chase that ended near the Washington State Fairgrounds.

Police say 34-year-old Nathan Terault of Tacoma shot and killed 71-year-old Richard Johnson after the older man confronted him while Terault was prowling through his pickup truck.

Police say Terault fired at more than a dozen people, striking 13 houses with bullets.

The Methodist church where the vigil is planned has personal ties to people affected by the shooting spree. Johnson's wife teaches in the onsite preschool. Rev. Karen Yokota, associate pastor, says the shooting has definitely hit home.

Residents of all faiths are invited to the peace vigil.
