FAA investigating plane crash that sparked wildfires

OROVILLE, Wash. (AP) — Officials with the Federal Aviation Administration are investigating the wreckage of a small aircraft found in north-central Washington by crews responding to wildfires in the area.

FAA spokesman Ian Gregor said early Friday that an FAA inspector was expected to arrive at the site Thursday night or Friday.

Okanogan County Sheriff's Office says the body of one person was found with the airplane.

Sheriff Frank Rogers says the wreckage was discovered Thursday near Oroville, a small town near the Canadian border.

Rogers says it appeared the plane crash may have caused one of the fires.

He told the Spokesman Review that the fire burned off identifying marks that were on the plane, so investigators aren't sure where the plane took off or where it was headed.
