Broncos defeat Seahawks 22-20 in first preseason game

SEATTLE -- The Denver Broncos defeated the Seattle Seahawks 22 - 20 in their first preseason game of 2015.

Brock Osweiler completed 15 of 20 passes for 151 yards and a touchdown, leading Denver to scores on all five first-half possessions on Friday night.

But there were some standouts for the Hawks, including WR Tyler Lockett who ran for a 103-yard touchdown and DE Frank Clark who was all over Denver’s backfield.

It was a bit of a rocky start for the Hawks. On their second play, QB Russell Wilson fumbled the ball which was recovered by the Broncos at Seattle’s 10-yard line. The Hawks defense held the Broncos to a field goal.

Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson was in for two series and completed his lone pass attempt, a 12-yard connection with new tight end Jimmy Graham. As expected, Peyton Manning did not take a single snap.

After exchanging field goals, the Broncos led the Hawks 6 – 3 at the end of the 1st quarter.

The Broncos put up two more field goals in the 2nd quarter. In fact, they were held to a field goal on each of their first four drives.

The Hawks’ first touchdown came on a kickoff return. Tyler Lockett ran 103 yards for the TD.

The Hawks were charged with unsportsmanlike conduct on the play when Head Coach Pete Carroll accidentally got in the way of a referee who was running down the sideline.

Lockett also had an impressive 46-yard kickoff return.

Osweiler capped his night with a 17-yard touchdown pass to tight end Virgil Green late in the first half for a 19-10 Broncos lead.

It was a quiet 3rd quarter. The Hawks eventually brought in QB R.J. Archer after the Broncos muffed a punt, and it was recovered by the Hawks at the 12-yard line. Archer led the Seahawks down to the 6 where Hauschka kicked a short 24-yard field goal. Hawks trailed 19 – 13.

But Seattle wasn’t done yet. Late in the 4th quarter, Archer led the Hawks 80-yards down the field, capping off the drive with a 19-yard touchdown pass to Thomas Rawls.

The Hawks trailed 22-20 with less than 3 minutes to go.

It appeared Seattle was going to hold Denver after Frank Clark sacked Trevor Siemian, but an illegal hands penalty on Douglas McNeil gave the Broncos a first down, and they were able to run down the clock. The Hawks took possession with 18 seconds left in the game, but couldn’t score.

We didn’t see any Beast Mode in Friday’s game. RB Marshawn Lynch was fully suited during pregame warmups, but it was backup Robert Turbin who started.

Next week, the Seahawks head to Kansas City to take on the Chiefs in a game that can be seen on Q13 FOX with pregame coverage starting at 4 p.m.
