Pierce county prosecutors have charged Joseph Leonard with Retail Theft with Special Circumstance in the Third Degree.  It is a Class C Felony.

The 18 year old is accused of stealing electronics from the Walmart on 31st Ave SE in Puyallup earlier this year.

He is already in jail on a vehicle theft charge.

Leonard is WMW Capture #677.

Puyallup police need your help identifying an armed thief who pulled out his piece during a wild getaway at a Walmart.

“Loss prevention were watching a shoplifter, watched him take quite a bit of large electronic devices, had loaded them up into a cart,” says Puyallup Police Sgt. Dan Pashon. “He ended up then taking those items, putting them into backpacks, while loss prevention were getting into position to try and make an apprehension, the suspect fled out of one of the emergency exit doors with the merchandise. What they weren’t aware of until they later reviewed the video was that the subject had displayed a firearm, held it up over his head and appeared to be trying to deter anybody from trying to stop him or make the arrest. They attempted to make contact with the subject out in the parking lot, in a vehicle, but the suspect fled. We are concerned about the fact that he was armed and was willing to display that and possibly use that weapon.”

Detectives say he had a chin beard and a large tattoo down the inside of his left forearm. He was wearing a New York Jets hat and a black Chicago Bulls shirt.

The car he took off in is described as a dark-colored four-door with rims and a spoiler.
