Wounded man tells police he was shot in shoulder while driving in Tacoma
TACOMA -- A 23-year-old wounded man told Tacoma police Wednesday night that he was shot in the shoulder while he was driving near 72nd Street and Pacific Avenue, police said.
Officer Loretta Cool said it was unclear where the shot came from, and detectives were investigating.
She said investigators were able to recover evidence from the initial shooting scene at 72nd and Pacific. The victim’s vehicle was impounded and taken into evidence. It is unknown at this time whether the victim was targeted or if he was randomly shot.
The victim was transported to Tacoma General Hospital with non-life-threatening injury.
The shooting was first reported when the man's mother called 911 and said her son had been shot in the shoulder shortly after 8 p.m. Wednesday, Cool said.
Pacific Avenue was closed between 72nd and 84th streets for a short time for the investigation, police said.
