Police take woman into custody after lengthy standoff at Fife hotel

FIFE, Wash. -- Police took a woman into custody after she reportedly held police at bay during a standoff in Fife that lasted almost ten hours.

Part of the Econo Lodge in Fife was evacuated by police Wednesday night when a woman in one of the rooms threatened to "shoot the place up" during an apparent domestic violence incident, police said.

Officers were first called to the hotel for a domestic violence situation. When police knocked on the door containing the couple who were arguing, a man came to the door but would not open it all the way, police said.

Officers asked for him to step out of the room when a woman yelled at police, "Get out, I have a gun and will shoot the place up," police said.

Officers backed off and tried to call the room, but got no response. The Pierce County Sheriff's SWAT team was called in, while 20 rooms were evacuated.

Witnesses said they heard the woman threatening to kill her partner and anyone who comes near her.

Police were able to enter the room and arrested the woman but the man was not inside.
