Noisy, destructive summer storm rolls through area (PHOTO GALLERY)

SEATTLE -- A noisy summer storm rolled through the Puget Sound area Wednesday morning, downing a few trees and sending shocks of thunder through the air.

Residents around the Sound were shocked by the storm, which occurred during a calm summer and follows a particularly calm winter.

Dylan Odom, a Tacoma resident, said a tree by his home was demolished after it was struck by lightning around 10:30 a.m. Odom said his whole house shook during the strike, and he ran outside to see branches flung as far as across the street. A truck's windshield and a house window were damaged.

"The branch flew into the window of this house that was across the street from the tree," Odom said. "The man whose house was damged most also had a branch through his truck windshield."
