Bellingham dentist killed by boulder on 46th birthday in North Cascades National Park

SEDRO-WOOLLEY, Wash. -- A 46-year-old Bellingham climber was killed by a rockfall in North Cascades National Park on Sunday, the park service said Tuesday.

The rockfall occurred in the Fisher Peak area near Easy Pass.

Denise Shultz, public information officer for the National Park Service, told the Bellingham Herald that Eric Moldver was hiking Sunday, his 46th birthday, with a group in a steep area on some loose rock when a boulder fell from above Moldver and hit him on the head.

Other members of the man's climbing group responded immediately to provide First-Aid and CPR, a park news release said. One of the group members quickly descended the route and contacted an off-duty park ranger, who radioed for help, the park service said.

His body was recovered by helicopter.

According to the Bellingham Herald, Moldver was a dentist at the Interfaith Community Health Center, had a wife and two kids and graduated from the University of Washington in 1991.
