3-alarm fire burns building at Kent-Meridian High School

KENT, Wash. -- Crews are mopping up after fire ripped through a building Monday afternoon at Kent-Meridian High School. No injuries were reported.

Firefigthers were called to the scene just before 4:30 p.m. when a passerby spotted the fire.

According to the Kent Fire Department, crews knocked down the fire about an hour later. Officials say it was not the main school building that burned, but rather an annex that houses auto shop and art classes.

The building is located near the school's tennis courts and portable classrooms. All of windows were broken and the blinds were scorched.

Investigators do not yet know what caused the fire, but they said it appeared to start outside, then spread to the building.

School officials say they hope to have the classrooms back in use by the time school starts at the end of the month.
