Seahawks release DT Tony McDaniel in salary cap move

RENTON, Wash. (AP) — The Seattle Seahawks have released veteran defensive tackle Tony McDaniel to save salary cap space after signing quarterback Russell Wilson and linebacker Bobby Wagner to contract extensions.

Seattle made the move with McDaniel on Sunday and it will save the club between $2.5 and $3 million against the salary cap. McDaniel was set to make $2.5 million in base salary.

McDaniel spent two seasons with the Seahawks, starting 29 of 32 regular-season games. McDaniel had 83 tackles, two sacks and one fumble recovery in the regular season, and started five of six postseason games with Seattle.

McDaniel was originally signed by Jacksonville in 2006 as an undrafted free agent and spent three seasons with the Jaguars before playing four years in Miami.
