Fire at Seattle apartment building displaces 5 people; dog, 3 cats rescued

SEATTLE -- Firefighters battled a two-alarm fire at an apartment building in Seattle's Central District Thursday afternoon. Smoke from the blaze could be seen from West Seattle.

The Seattle Fire Department said the fire in the 500 block of 27th Avenue displaced five residents. No injuries were reported.

Firefighters rescued a dog and three cats.

Fire Department officials said later that the fire was caused by someone discarding smoking materials on the front porch of the building.
