40-year-old Tacoma man drowns in Kitsap County's Long Lake

SOUTH KITSAP, Wash. -- A 40-year-old Tacoma man drowned in Long Lake Thursday night, the Kitsap County Sheriff's Office said.

Spokesman Scott Wilson said the man was about 30 yards from shore swimming with friends when he began struggling. The friends were unable to bring him to shore and he went under.

The friends were unable to find him until he had been under water for about 10 to 12 minutes, Wilson said.

The man was eventually found and lifted into a boat, where CPR was performed. But the victim did not survive.

He was not immediately identified.
