Seattle police officer Cynthia Whitlach showing arresting William Wingate last summer for refusing to put down a golf club he was carrying on a city street. The image was captured from the police car's dash camera.

SEATTLE — A Seattle police officer was told Monday she faces firing for arresting a 70-year-old black man who refused to put down a golf club he was holding on a city street, the police guild confirmed.

The Seattle Times first reported the news of the officer being informed of termination.

The Seattle Police Officers’ Guild said that, under department procedures, officer Cynthia Whitlach will be an given an opportunity to plead her case with Police Chief Kathleen O’Toole before O’Toole issues a final decision.

Whitlatch came under scrutiny when she arrested William Wingate last summer when he refused to put down a golf club he was holding on a street corner. He said he was using the club as a walking cane; she said he had raised it and wielded like a weapon as she drove by in her patrol car.

The confrontation and arrest was captured on the officer’s dash camera.

Wingate was arrested and spent a night in jail.

The police department apologized to Wingate in January and gave his golf club back.

In late January, O’Toole, saying she was “shocked and disappointed,” pulled Whitloch off the street and ordered investigations after discovering she had allegedly written allegedly racist comments on Facebook.

Left out of the story is that Mr. Wingate had NEVER BEFORE been arrested. And at every point in the process, the ‘system’ failed to notice it was the cop and not her victim who was bad.

It is far too difficult to fire a cop in this country.

A rainbow woman goes down ….about time these nazis lez’s get it. Poor guy was aresstest for being Black. I hope Seattle pays big time.

O’toole really shouldn’t have a choice in this and needs to fire her. However, let’s see if the real power of PC groups come to play and force O’toole’s hand in keeping her. I’m sure O’toole wouldn’t want to be called a “hater”.

Firing her is too extreme. Just some reprimand would be more appropriate. Given some comments here, it’s clear that she’s more vulnerable to discrimination as a white female officer than this black man was to racism. For whatever reasons, this sick society has decided that it’s alright to express hatred for and to discriminate against white females and especially those who don’t act girly femmy and silly. This society just always have to have someone to beat down, don’t you?

Really FM? Have you reviewed the entire dash cam video? The woman is hardly a victim of any sort of discrimination for being a WHITE FEMALE OFFICER and it has nothing to do with the fact she isn’t feminine either. She is a bigot and a BULLY with a BADGE AND A GUN! Not to mention a chip on her shoulder. THE MAN DIDNT DO ANYTHING WRONG! He didn’t THREATEN HER EITHER! Also I see ONE comment here that is out of line! ONE so where are these so called comments from some people that led you to believe that this woman was a victim? I mean JUDGING by the comments you have left here I am led to believe you are confused about the difference between a FEMALE OFFICER BEHAVING LIKE AN IGNORANT BIGOTED BULLY with seriouse CONTROL ISSUES and a LESS FEMININE FEMALE OFFICER!
IN FACT I think your confusion with the difference might even offend some of the women in law enforcement who are less feminine for failing to recognize that This female officer is something entirely different then who they are!

Fire her before she shoots a black person then says ” he had skittles, or illegal cigarettes, or a missing front license plate, or failed to use turn signal, or had a bad attitude…ect!
