Phoenix, AZ (KPHO) — Neighbors said they knew both the victim and her husband had a history of mental illness, but they never thought anything like this would happen.
“It’s mind-blowing, you know? It’s got everyone around here shook and upset,” George Loney, who said he called 911, told KPHO in Phoenix.
Loney said he went to the couple’s home Saturday morning to check on his friend Trina Heisch, the victim.
“I hadn’t heard from Trina in two days which is highly unusual,” he said.
When he went to her home, he saw her husband.
“He answers the door stark naked, so right away, I know something’s wrong,” Loney said. “He tells me he killed three of his family members, but it’s OK God forgives him. I don’t believe him. I look around. I see blood and [expletive deleted] and clothes; there’s a mess everywhere. I looked down, and I see his arm is missing…I turn around to leave, and I think maybe I should look back in, and I see there is blood, and it’s like The [Texas] Chainsaw Massacre.”
It’s a gruesome sight Loney said he’s never seen before.
“All kinds of thoughts go through my head,” Loney said. “I come back here and call the cops.”
“He just came back and was completely freaked out,” said Jennifer Berresford, Loney’s roommate.
“By the time the cops made it, he had already ripped out his eyeball,” Loney said.
When police arrived, they found Heisch decapitated inside the bedroom closet, and two dogs mutilated.
“You would never expect him to do what he did. I’m in shock. I’m really in shock,” Berresford said.
“Trina, very nice lady. It’s too bad. Our love goes out to her family,” Loney said.
Police said Heisch and her husband met in a mental-health facility and had a history of mental illness, domestic violence and drug abuse.
Police said the suspect was arrested in 2003 for attempting to kill a family member, and Heisch had been arrested in March for domestic violence assault.
The suspect is in the hospital recovering from surgery.
Police said he will be booked once he’s released from the hospital.
