Mosquito samples test positive for West Nile Virus in Grant County

MOSES LAKE, Wash. -- The Grant County Health District said Monday there have been multiple mosquito samples that have tested positive for West Nile Virus there.

It said there have been 42 positive mosquito samples taken so far this year, compared with 34 samples during the entire 2014 season.

West Nile Virus is spread to humans through the bite of an infected mosquito.

The Health District said it is important that all people living, working and playing in Grant County protect themselves from being bitten by mosquitoes.

The risk of getting West Nile Virus is very low, but anyone can become infected. People over 50 years of age and those with compromised immune systems have the highest risk of serious illness. Most people who are infected with West Nile Virus will not get sick, the health district said.
