Police: Bellingham woman says she killed husband, toddler son to 'save' them from 'stalkers'

BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- A 43-year-old woman told authorities she shot and killed her husband and toddler son while they slept because she believed they were being stalked and she wanted to "save" them, court documents said Wednesday.

Erin Lee Jordan, of Bellingham, was charged with two counts of murder Wednesday.

She and the bodies of her husband, Michael Jordan, 59, and 17-month-old son, Miles Jordan, were found by a real estate agent who dropped by Sunday to get ready for an open house showing at the family's home at 5056 Noon Road in Bellingham.

The real estate agent told police he heard a woman calling for help behind a locked second-floor bedroom door.  He busted open the door and found the bodies of the two on the bed and Erin Jordan bleeding on the floor from a gunshot wound to the chest.

Michael had been shot once in the head, court documents said. The son, Miles, was shot in the body.

Michael Jordan was shot once in the head, police said.

According to the police statement in court documents, Erin Jordan admitted that she shot Michael and Miles as they slept a few days before they were found Sunday. She also allegedly told police she had planned the shooting for two days.

The documents said Erin Jordan told police she shot the two "to save them. Erin said that she was stressed, depressed and overwhelmed of the changes in her life and she believed people were watching them and stalking them. Erin said she saved Michael and Miles by doing what she did."

She then shot herself in a suicide attempt, police said.

The Bellingham Herald said Erin Jordan has been hospitalized since she was found Sunday and she has not yet appeared in court. But two charges of first-degree murder were filed against her.

The Herald said both Erin and Michael Jordan were school teachers at the Lummi Nation School. He taught high school English and special education there starting in fall 2007, and she briefly taught grade school students, the newspaper said.
