'It can wait:' Powerful ad shows how distracted driving can shatter lives (VIDEO)

A new advertisement shows what can happen when you take your eyes off the road, even for just a moment.

The ad from AT&T shows how a mother's quick glance at social media has devastating consequences that shatter the lives of several families.

The video, posted to Youtube last week, has more than 300,000 views. The caption reads:

"In Close to Home, we are introduced to six characters on a perfectly average day. Their lives are then irrevocably changed by the devastating consequences of a seemingly innocent glance at a phone while driving. No post is worth a life. It Can Wait."

The short film is part of a new campaign from the telecommunications company in an effort to "show the potential fatal consequences of engaging with your phone while driving."

AT&T also has a virtual reality simulator you can download to your smartphone to show the consequences of distracted driving:

"Behind the wheel, everything can change in the blink of an eye. A post, a selfie, a text, a scroll, an email — one look is all it takes. This simulation shows the real consequences of looking at your phone while driving."
