COUPEVILLE, Wash. (AP) — The FBI is reviewing the investigation into the April dehydration death of an inmate at the Island County Jail.

FBI spokeswoman Ayn Dietrich tells the Daily Herald of Everett the FBI routine gets involved to determine whether a federal crime was committed.

Island Prosecutor Greg Banks is also reviewing the case of 25-year-old Keaton Farris of Lopez Island, found dead April 8. The county coroner determined Farris died from dehydration and malnutrition. Water had been shut off to his cell.

Island County Sheriff Mark Brown, whose agency runs the small jail, has apologized publicly for the death. The jail chief was suspended and later retired. Two corrections officers resigned after the investigation alleged they falsified records logs after Farris died to make it appear they’d been monitoring him. A lieutenant was placed on leave and later fired.

That is really sad. It is apparent they forgot about the man and he died of starvation and dehydration,,,,,,must have been a slow and painful demise. Lonely as well.
