WOODLAND, Wash. (AP) — A 63-year-old man is in Cowlitz County Jail, accused of shooting and killing a dog during a burglary in Woodland.

Woodland police arrested Thomas Nash on investigation of first-degree assault, first-degree burglary and animal cruelty. He was booked into jail late Sunday.

Police say Nash broke into a shop on Saturday afternoon and shot a black Labrador Retriever dead. The dog’s owner told police he woke up when he heard gunshots in his shop and went to see what happened. The gunman allegedly fired at the man but missed. He fled.

Several regional police agencies had searched for Nash over the weekend.

The Longview Daily News reports police said the two men knew each other and been at odds recently.

If I was King I would execute people who do things like this, and crime would drop dramatically. 2% do 95% of the crime, and that 2% doesn’t change regardless what you do to “rehabilitate” or punish them. The only rational policy is to identify the repeat offenders, execute them, and use the massive savings to help the innocent, like homeless children, with housing, food, healthcare, and education. We’re wasting way too many scarce resources on the evil among us.

I’ll vote for you. Life in prison is cruel and unusual punishment. If someone has been deemed unfit for society send then back to their maker. Burglary is one things but running around popping off shots is moronic. Get him off the streets
