Semi carrying millions of bees overturns on I-90 near IRONMAN course (PHOTOS)

COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho -- A semi-truck carrying 400 beehives overturned on a busy freeway near the IRONMAN Triathlon course in North Idaho.

According to Idaho State Police, the semi crashed Sunday afternoon on Eastbound I-90 near the Sherman Avenue exit in Coeur d'Alene.

Police said bees were swarming the area and the public was encouraged to stay away.

The community hosts an IRONMAN Triathlon every year, and KXLY reports the running portion of the course was very close to where the truck overturned.

Crews were preparing to flip the truck back over around 4 p.m.

A similar truck wreck just two days ago released more than 20 million bees on State Highway 33 in the eastern Idaho desert. Those bees were being shipped to North Dakota to pollinate crops and make honey.

Back in April, a semi-truck loaded with more than 40 million bees overturned on Interstate 5 in Lynnwood.
