NORTH BEND, Wash. — Possible human remains were recovered from a remote area of Mount Si Friday and turned over to the medical examiner’s office for examination, sheriff’s detective Jason Houch said.

The detective said that a hiker earlier this week discovered what he thought might be human remains in a remote area of the mountain and notified police.

A helicopter was used to drop sheriff’s office personnel down into that remote area to recover the remains.

Houch said the remains had been there much longer than two and a half years, so that eliminated the possibility that the remains are that of skydiver Kurt Ruppert, who fell over Mount Si in January 2013 and whose body was never found.

Houch said the medical examiner’s office is expected to examine the remains Monday to determine if they are human.
