Two-alarm fire destroys apartment building under construction

SEATTLE - A two-alarm fire destroyed an apartment building under construction in the University District of Seattle Wednesday morning, the Seattle Fire Department reported.

Large flames and smoke were seen by firefighters arriving at the construction site in the 5200 block of 12th Avenue Northeast.

The fire in the three-story building was so intense that fire crews had to set up a block away when they first arrived.

Fire embers from the fire may have started a small fire at a home a block away.

There were no injuries reported in the fire, but a number of people were displaced, and the Red Cross was responding to the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. This is a developing story and will be updated as soon as more information is available.
