TACOMA, Wash. (AP) — The body of a 50-year-old Portland novice scuba diver who disappeared during after a Tacoma diving excursion has been located.

Candace Sneed, a mother of three from Portland, was on her first open water dive with her 12-year-old son and several other people in Commencement Bay last Wednesday.

Tacoma police spokeswoman Loretta Cool says two women on shore last Wednesday saw what they described as a diver in distress, bobbing above the water and screaming for help.

A water and air search failed to locate Sneed.

The Oregonian reports (http://is.gd/slEsrn ) that another diver spotted the dead diver's body last weekend in Commencement Bay. Cool says the medical examiner will determine and release the cause of death.

The newspaper reports that Sneed and her 12-year-old son were on their first open dive since getting certified. They were preparing for a dive vacation to Fiji.
