Thousands unite for an end to breast cancer

SEATTLE - Thousands of people, united in their message, raced and walked for an end to breast cancer on Sunday in Seattle. There were cancer survivors, family and friends, almost all wearing "pink" as the participated in the Susan G. Kome Puget Sound Race for the Cure.

Hundreds of pink-clad breast cancer survivors took part in the Race’s survivor celebration, an inspiring and heartwarming tradition that included breakfast treats and a parade for survivors. Also part of this year’s Race is a kids’ run and – for the first time – a dedicated walk for (accompanied) dogs.

Race for the Cure is Komen Puget Sound’s single largest fund raising opportunity. Seventy-five percent of net funds raised are invested into community grants that provide underserved women with support for breast cancer early detection, patient navigation and financial support for basic needs while undergoing treatment. The remaining twenty-five percent goes directly to fund research to better diagnose, treat and ultimately cure breast cancer

Sunday June 7th is also National Cancer Survivors Day.
