Police: male driver accidentally runs over, kills woman; both were delivering newspapers

NEAR BREMERTON - A woman delivering newspapers near Bremerton Sunday was struck and killed by a driver who was also delivering newspapers, police said.

Kitsap Sheriff's spokesman Scott Wilson said the tragic accident happened just before 5 a.m. in the 5900 block of Tracyton Boulevard NW, near Bremerton.

The man had stopped in a residential driveway to deliver a newspaper and when he was backing up he felt his vehicle hit something, Wilson said.

The driver got out of his car and found a woman trapped underneath the vehicle, Wilson said.

The man immediately called 9-1-1 and emergency crews from Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue extricated the woman and transported her to Harrison Medical Center ion Bremerton, where she was pronounced deceased.

Both the driver and the woman are contracted delivery person for area newspapers, Wilson said.

Sheriff's investigators continue to investigate the accident; Wilson said that neither alcohol or drugs are involved. The male driver was released, pending further investigation.
