2 men arrested in Kitsap County accused of torture, imprisonment, robbery

BREMERTON, Wash. -- Two men were arrested on allegations of torture, unlawful imprisonment and robbery, the Kitsap County Sheriff's Office said Friday.

A 43-year-old East Bremerton resident was booked into jail on charges of assault, robbery and unlawful imprisonment. His bail was set at $1 million.

And a 29-year-old transient was booked into jail on charges of assault and robbery. His bail was set at $200,000.

The sheriff's office said on Thursday night deputies responded to a church on State Route 303 concerning a severely injured 52-year-old man who was found in the church's parking lot and who said he had been assaulted by one of the suspects in a home in the 6500 block of Graceland Road NE in East Bremerton.

The man said he was able to escape the property and make his way to the church, but that another victim was still being held against his will at the property.

Deputies who went to the property found the second victim, a 37-year-old man, lying on the ground and badly injured, the sheriff's office said. The extent of his injuries included skull and facial fractures, a cervical spine fracture and multiple broken ribs, the office said.

Other injuries included burns on the man's legs and feet and lacerations on his upper body.

Detectives were told that this victim suffered from a neuro-degenerative disorder.

Detectives "were able to determine" that the primary suspect in the home had assaulted the 37-year-old victim with a variety of objects, including tree branches, a rubber hose, and a wooden spindle. The victim was also burned with a torch and a knife was used to inflict the lacerations. He was also shot at close range with an Airsoft pistol or BB gun.

"The object of this abuse appeared to be extorting the victim for money and medications as well as gaining access to the victim's cell phone, debit card and Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card," the sheriff's office said.

The second suspect, the 29-year-old transient, was arrested for his complicity in the assault and robbery of the 37-year-old victim, the office said.

The investigation is continuing, the sheriff's office said.
