Searchers looking for missing hiker in Chelan County spot what they believe to be body

LEAVENWORTH, Wash. -- A body was spotted Thursday while deputies were searching for a missing 46-year-old female hiker in the Bridge Creek area of the Icicle River Drainage, the Chelan County Sheriff's Office said.

The hiker was reported missing Wednesday night by family members when she failed to return from hiking with the family dog.

Searchers found her vehicle parked on Icicle Road at Bridge Creek, and her dog was found outside the car.

A camper  in the area east reported finding a woman's Keen-brand hiking sandal in an eddy area downriver from a small beach the missing hiker would frequent with the dog, the sheriff's office said.

At about 2:30 p.m. Thursday, the sheriff's office helicopter spotted what they believed  was a body in the river just below the Bridge Creek Campground, the sheriff's office said.  Recovery efforts are under way.

The name and residence of the missing hiker is being withheld at this time, the office said.
