TACOMA (AP) — A Pierce County man who was sentenced to life in prison at age 14 after killing a Steilacoom marina owner will be eligible for parole in February.

The Tacoma News Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/1MqPPeG ) a series of legal changes paved the way for the release of Barry Massey.

The state’s Indeterminate Sentence Review Board announced Thursday that the now 41-year-old who has served more than 25 years in prison will be eligible for release after completing a series of inmate classes about behavior, problem-solving and social skills.

Massey also must submit a release plan that is acceptable to the state Department of Corrections, including where he will live.

I’m sure all those classes really taught him how to not murder. Sure.

The fact that crazies and murderers like this are let back out on the streets to try to kill again later in life is just one of the big reasons why I carry a gun on the daily. You can’t count on the state to do its job and keep these people locked up, so you have to take your safety and security into your own hands. Sad but true.
