WENATCHEE, Wash. -- Nearly one year after being burned in the worst wildfire in Washington state history, a young black bear nicknamed Cinder has been returned to the wild.
Cinder was found in the aftermath of the Carlton Complex Fire last summer with severely burned paws.
Rescuers cared for her first at a sanctuary in California and then at a rehab facility in Idaho.
Officials said she has gained 80 pounds during her recovery and her paws don’t appear to be sensitive any longer.
Cinder and another rescued male bear were released back into the wild outside of Wenatchee Wednesday.
