Seattle police release video of 2 masked thieves pulling off $100K pot heist

One of the masked thieves uncovers an entire shelf of marijuana plants, but police say that was left behind in favor of refrigerated pot concentrate found elsewhere.

SEATTLE -- Seattle police on Wednesday released surveillance video from inside a business complex that captured two masked suspects who stole $100,000 in goods from a pot business.

Cameras show the suspects uncovering a large crop of marijuana plants, which they ultimately left behind as they worked their way into the medical lab’s refrigerated storage area.

The refrigerated area was stocked with processed marijuana concentrates. Police said the suspects filled several bags with pot products and then stole an employee’s car, which had been left overnight at the complex.

Seattle Police said the thieves rammed through a fence and tore through vents and drywall to get to the pot products.

It happened on the 2000 block of 22nd Avenue South around 3 a.m. Monday.

Investigators said they’re looking for a pair of burglars who broke into three adjacent marijuana businesses, first by cutting the power, then ramming into the fence, squeezing through vents and even breaking through walls before getting to the medical lab’s freezer, stocked with processed marijuana concentrates.

Those who live and work nearby the business say they feared the pot businesses would attract crime.

“It’s all about cash, and if there’s that much cash around then it’s just a target for somebody who is willing to put in the time and effort to get in there,” said David Cleeton, who works and lives nearby.

Police say after stealing all the marijuana, the thieves stole a car an employee had left there overnight. They say finding that car could be key in finding the people responsible for this heist.
