Police officer hurt when suspect rams patrol car head-on

MILTON -- A man injured a Milton police officer early Tuesday morning when he allegedly rammed his car into the officer's patrol car in an attempt to avoid arrest.

Around 12:20 a.m., the officer spotted a car parked erratically in the middle of the 8400 block of Pacific Highway, Milton police said. The officer went to check on the driver, but when the driver saw him approaching, the suspect slowly pulled his car forward. The officer --recognizing the car was moving -- instructed the driver to turn off the car. Instead, the driver hit the gas and took off, police said.

The officer ran to his patrol car and followed the suspect. After a short time, the suspect allegedly pulled a U-Turn and slammed into the officer's car head on. Both cars were traveling around 50 mph when they hit.

Following the crash, the officer was able to get out and arrest the driver. Other police called to the scene assisted in the arrest.

The officer suffered a minor cut to the head and possible concussion. He was checked at a local hospital and released.

The suspect was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries. He is expected to be booked into jail soon.
