Rescue teams reach climbers in the Enchantments

WENATCHEE, Wash. (AP) — The Chelan County Mountain Rescue team was busy over the weekend with two separate calls for sick and injured climbers.

The sheriff's office says the first came in at 9:22 a.m. Sunday from a climber on Dragontail Peak in the Enchantments who said his partner was suffering a diabetic episode. A helicopter team found him at about 7,700 feet. They brought in a second chopper to do a hoist extrication.

They moved Michael Meronek of Portland, Oregon to a staging area where he was checked out by medics.

And then at 11:30 a.m. the rescue crew learned about a female rock climber who had taken a fall in the Careno Crag area. They found Manisha Powar of Seattle with a broken leg and ribs.

Crews took her out on a litter and she was taken to Central Washington Hospital.
