Police: Man seriously beaten while attempting to stop attack on woman

EDMONDS -- Police are asking for the public's help in identifying suspects who were allegedly spotted attacking a woman, and then later brutally beating a bystander who tried to intervene.

Around 1 a.m. Sunday, a man was walking through the parking lot of a McDonald's restaurant in the 21400 block of Highway 99 in Edmonds when he allegedly spotted two women fighting. A male then exited a nearby video store, police said, and also began attacking one of the females.

Edmonds police said the man tried to intervene and stop the attack but he was subsequently attacked by everyone. The man was brutally beaten, police said, and sustained serious injuries to the head and body. All of his attackers then fled the scene, police said.

Emergency workers took the victim to Harborview Medical Center, where he remains in serious condition.

Other witnesses at the scene described the suspects as leaving in a white or silver Wolkswagen Passat. Investigators are looking for clues, and encourage anyone who saw anything to call the Edmonds Police Department at 435-771-0200.
