SPD: Teens arrested after shots fired in Beacon Hill park

SEATTLE – Two teens were arrested on Friday night after reports of shots being fired in a Seattle park.

Residents near Van Assalt Playfield started calling 911 around 10:30 p.m. on Friday, reporting shots being fired in the South Beacon Hill park. Seattle Police Det. Patrick Michaud said that officers arrived quickly, and while some stopped vehicles that were leaving the park, others went into the park looking for shell casings. Four casings were found.

One of the vehicles stopped was a tan Chevy Impala, driven by an 18-year-old male. An officer spotted a handgun on the floor of the car, and after it was matched with the casings found in the park, the driver and his 16-year-old passenger were taken into custody.

Michaud said that the 18-year-old was booked into the King County Jail on a firearms charge, while the 16-year-old passenger was taken to the King County Youth Services Center for an outstanding warrant. The Impala was also impounded.

No injuries were reported.
