Puyallup man who doused girlfriend with gasoline and set her on fire sentenced to 25 years

TACOMA, Wash. (AP) — A judge has ordered a Puyallup man to spend 25 years in prison for killing his girlfriend by setting her on fire at their South Hill home.

Pierce County Prosecutor Mark Lindquist says the death of Maria Bazan was "a horrific example of domestic violence."

Angel Luis Sierra Reyes pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in April.

Lindquist says Reyes and his girlfriend had an argument about their relationship on May 5, 2014. He got a gas can, poured fuel on Bazan and ignited it.

Bazan ran from the home and a neighbor put out the flames. She was hospitalized but died two weeks later.

Reyes told a deputy that he "blacked out" with anger during the argument with his girlfriend and admitted to setting her on fire.
