Two sexual assaults in less than 2 weeks on Edmonds Community College campus

LYNNWOOD, Wash. -- Edmonds Community College is asking students to be on alert, after two sexual assaults on campus in less than two weeks.

“That's kind of shocking,” student Grace Jeong said of the assaults.

A campus alert says a thin, dark-skinned man walked up to a female student Wednesday morning between Lynnwood and Snohomish Hall and fondled her chest.

“In the daytime, wow!" student Onyx Ho said.

“That’s crazy, I never thought it would happen here,” Carlos Rosas added.

Just last week, a man attacked another woman. She fought back and the man ran off.

Chemistry teacher Heather Walsh says she avoids walking near bushes and is always aware of her surroundings.

“I have my key out when I walk to my car. I know it’s a small metal object but I am ready to jab someone with it,” Walsh said.

Students say they are walking with friends, and if they are by themselves, they plan to call campus security to escort them to their cars.

For Jeong, the incidents bring back bad memories.

“Someone kind of touched me. I was shocked. I couldn’t do anything, I was just standing there,” Jeong said.

That incident did not happen at Edmonds Community College, and, luckily, a stranger stepped in quickly.

“Someone helped me. Luckily, it was a really, really crowded place,” Jeong said.

Campus security will increase patrols -- and students are being asked to be on guard.

You don’t have to tell that to Jeong.

“Stick together, that’s the best thing we can do,” Jeong said.

The Lynnwood Police Departments says detectives are investigating to see if the cases are related.
