WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) — The attorney for a Florida woman who fled with her son to avoid his circumcision says she has been arrested.

Heather Hironimus went missing with the 4-year-old nearly three months ago to evade the surgery. A judge found her in contempt of court and ordered her arrest.

Her attorney, Thomas Hunker, said she was taken into custody Thursday, but had no further details. Her name did not yet appear in inmate databases and jail officials couldn’t be reached for comment.

Hironimus initially agreed to have her son circumcised but then changed her mind, leading to a long court fight with the boy’s father. Circuit and appellate judges have sided with the father.

The case has drawn protests and widespread attention from anti-circumcision advocates who deride the surgery as barbaric.

This is ridiculous I never did that to any of my boys why would you circumcise a four-year-old that is horrible that is torture

It’s permanent. Why the court would agree to this is incomprehensible. At this point they should leave the boy alone. Fine the mother, jail her or whatever, but don’t force this on the child.

If the parents can’t agree on this when the child is an infant, then the courts need to rule that the procedure be halted until the child is an adult and can make the decision on his own. The courts have no business getting involved in this disagreement.

I was protected as a child from genital cutting! It’s horrible that a develop country allows genital cutting of boys! While most other western countries abolished it or simply never practiced it at all. And all done for profit! Cause of the damn money!! With 80% of the erections and pleasure I ever gotten coming from my foreskin, I would be devastating not having it!! Sad sad!! Just sad! Look at the country’s erectile dysfunction rates here in america (52% over age of 30). While countries that protect their boys (less than 1%) erectile dysfunction. Research and protect boys as well! Let’s stop being a sexist nation!
