Judge sets $1 million bail for suspect in UW sex assaults

SEATTLE (AP) — A King County District Court judge has set a $1 million bail for a man connected to a series of sexual assaults in Seattle's University District.

The Seattle Times reports that Onelio Abundio Cardona-Hernandez was arrested Friday for investigation of rape, indecent liberties and burglary from a series of attacks in houses near the University of Washington campus. Cardona-Hernandez appeared in court Monday.

Police say a series of 12 similar, sexually motivated burglaries at large rooming houses began in December and continued into this year. In some cases, victims woke to the assailant touching their shoulder, legs or feet. Cardona-Hernandez was linked to the incidents through DNA, fingerprints and identifications from photo montages.

Police say Cardona-Hernandez was linked by fingerprints to one case and was identified in another.
