Ferry loses power on Bainbridge-Seattle run; tug boats bring it into dock

SEATTLE (AP) — Washington State Ferries says the ferry Tacoma lost power on a run between Bainbridge Island and Seattle and is out of service.

By early Friday evening, the ferry system had diverted the ferry Issaquah from the Fauntleroy-Vashon-Southworth run to the Seattle-Bainbridge Island run.

Ferry system spokeswoman Susan Harris says the cause of the Tacoma's problem is under investigation. Harris tells The Seattle Times it "appears to have something to do with the drive motors."

Tug boats brought the Tacoma safely into Seattle's Colman Dock after propulsion was lost Friday. Harris says there were about 500 people and 140 cars on board at the time.

The 460-foot-long Tacoma lost power during a run in July 2014 and was sidelined until late March.
