Auburn woman sentenced to 2 months for stealing from UPS

LACEY, Wash. (AP) — An Auburn woman who was arrested after stealing from UPS drop boxes was sentenced to two months in jail.

The Olympian reports that Karlyn Buttelo was sentenced Thursday in Thurston County Superior Court.

Police began investigating Buttelo after a UPS security officer reported that she had been trying to open a UPS drop box. Officers later learned that Buttelo had obtained an access code and opened drop boxes in Federal Way, DuPont and Olympia.

When she was arrested in a Lacey hotel in March, police found drugs, stolen mail and checks and a credit card making machine.

She initially was arrested on a drug and identity theft charges. The prosecutor agreed to drop the other charges if she pleaded guilty to one identity theft count, since she had no criminal history.
